Hereford MX Club 2011
Awards Presentation
Hereford Motocross Club welcomed over 150 members and guests along
with long-time AMCA Championship Top Runners, brothers Simon & James
Lane as special guests at their annual presentation evening dinner dance
at the three counties hotel.
The awards were as usual kicked off with the promising young talent
in the room as the club now boasts the most Inter Junior riders in
recent years. 13 year old Oliver Jones and 13 year old Tom Mumford
narrowly missed out on the podium with 5th & 4th respectively with 14
year old Adelaide Watkins finishing 3rd. 14 Year old Josh Gethin just
missed out on top spot with 2nd in his class but was topped by 13 year
old Grant Jones who was this years top Inter Junior Rider. Jones,
Watkins, Mumford & Gethin were all also part of the winning team in the
annual Wessex South Wales regional team race, with the Hereford
youngsters beating all the other 9 clubs in the region.
Last years top Inter Junior Chad Prosser had another successful
season in what was his first in the adult ranks as the 14 year old from
Brecon topped the MX2 Juniors in a season that saw him upgraded to the
Senior ranks, second in class went to Sam Mumford who also progressed to
the seniors with Ben Prosser filling the final step on the podium just
ahead of Ethan Lambert. In the MX1 Junior class James Price, Daniel
Clarke and Jon Evans were 5th, 4th and 3rd respectively all having spent
the latter half of the season in the Senior ranks. The top spot went to
Paul Lambert who narrowly pipped Dave Addison for the top trophy.
In the seniors Billy Johnson pipped Sam Mumford to 3rd place with
Harley Jones finishing runner up following an impressive first season in
the senior class. The Wayne Evans Memorial top MX2 Senior Trophy went to
Lewis Allen who had a very impressive season that finished with him an
established expert rider following his upgrading in September. In the
MX1 Seniors Peter Reed was pipped to the final step of the podium by
Mark Gaze who finished the season in the Experts. Glenn Owen filled the
runners up spot with John Card rounding off a strong season by topping
the MX1 Seniors.
In the MX2 Expert class Jamie Linton pipped Ash newton to the final
step on the podium as the top 2 swapped places from 2010 where Chris
Rudd was pipped by Kieran Mulloy for the top prize. In the MX1 Experts
Matt Rudd pipped Tom Card to 5th place in a very competitive class and
Scott Donativo just missed out on the top 3 finishing 4th. The top 3
were all Over 40's showing that they seem to get better with age with
Anthony Mapp finishing the season strongly to grab third, just behind
former AMCA Champion Andy Watkins, but retaining his Stormer MX Open
Expert Trophy was club Chairman Rob Prosser who had yet another
impressive year that saw him finish 5th in the AMCA Vets Championship
despite missing a round through injury.
In other awards where memorial trophies are awarded to top home
riders at the clubs home meetings, Kieran Mulloy and Grant Jones took
the Martin Hempsal and Ian Lewis Memorial respectively for consistent
performances at Hereford meetings. The first 2 Hereford meetings of the
season saw the same rider take top top honours where Harley Jones took
both the Ray Hockey Memorial and the Ivor Hackley Memorial. The 3rd
meeting of the season saw the top trophy shared as Rob Prosser and Sam
Mumford shared the Taylor & Bushnell Trophy. Finally the biggest and
oldest memorial trophy in the club, the giant Pop Beaumont Memorial went
to veteran Andy Watkins for the 2nd year running as he won all 3 races
in the clubs final meeting in September.
Andrew Linton took one of the clubs top awards as his fellow members
voted him the club person of the year, a deserved award for someone who
is crucial to the club with his expertise and endless hard work with
preparing one of the best amateur club tracks in the country. The voting
for most promising young rider was tight with 3 joint runners up all
recognised in the shape of Sam Mumford, Chad Prosser and Josh Gethin,
who all look set to be stars of the future. Pipping his 3 club mates
however was this years winner Grant Jones who will next season start in
the adult ranks having dominated the Inter Junior class this season.
Club Chairman Rob Prosser presented his Chair's Choice to long term
member Peter Cole in recognition for his hard work to the club for over
15 years.
Kieran Mulloy, Scott Donativo, Rob Prosser, Luke Jones, Terry Lloyd
and Andy Watkins were all recognised for outstanding rides throughout
the season; with 3 of them in contention for the nights top award, the
first ever presentation of the Lambo Tankard "Riders Rider", a giant
memorial tankard in memory of the clubs president John Lambert who sadly
lost his battle with prostate cancer in January. Over 50 rider members
voted for the rider of the season and despite several votes for Scott
Donativo and club Chairman Rob Prosser, the first ever recipient with
over half of the club's members voting for him was 18 year old Kieran
Mulloy. John Lambert's wife Hilda joined the special guests to present
the award to a delighted Mulloy.
Club secretary Peter Reed was presented with a gift by Chairman Rob
Prosser in recognition of his endless work and commitment to the club as
